Our Next Hike

Sunday April 28, 2007 at 1:00 PM sharp, we will hike Graveyard Fields. From Asheville, take the Blue Ridge Parkway South past Mount Pisgah. The Graveyard Fields overlook is at milepost 296.4; park here. We will meet where the trail starts at the right side of the large map. The total lenght is 3.2 miles and is quite hilly.Don't forget to bring water.

Sunday March 11, 2007 at 1:00 PM (don't forget to Spring Forwad and set your clocks one hour ahead) we'll hike the Big Laurel Creek near Hot Springs. This is an easy hike along a beautiful stream with white water, rocks and surrounding high cliffs. We will meet at the trail head parking lot (I-26 W to US 25 N to trailhead parking lot on S side just before US 25 makes 90 degree left turn. If you pass the coffee shop, you've gone too far.

 Sunday October 16, 2005 at 1:00 PM we will meet at the bridge (near the bathrooms) at Julian Price Park for a Fabulous Fall Hike. Afterwords, we will enjoy a Fabulous Fall Feast. Please bring covered dish, drinks and chairs. Hope to see you there.

Sunday June 05 at 2:00 PM we're going to meet at Moses Cone Manor near the bathrooms for a hike to the Firetower. Moses Cone Park is about 15 to 20 minutes from the intersection of Highways 321 and 105 in Boone. From that intersection take Highway 321 south toward Blowing Rock, then take the Blue Ridge Parkway south. The park is just about a mile from there at Milepost 294.

Great day for a picnic! Bring a dish, drinks and chairs, we're going to meet at 2:00 PM at Price Park, same place as Mother's Day -- you'll see us.

Its a combo hike and potluck for this Sunday May 15. Let's meet at 2:00 PM at Heavenly Mountain Gate. Take Deerfield Road untill it ends. Turn right on to Bamboo and go 1/10th of a mile. Turn left on to Little Laurel road for 3.1 miles. Turn right on Heavenly Mountain Drive. Park on the right side in front of the gate. Bring drinks and a covered dish.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY PICNIC! Bring a dish, drinks and chairs -- we're going to meet at 1:00 PM at Price Park somewhere near the bridge on the left, you'll see us.

Sunday April 17 at 2:00 PM travel south on the Blue Ridge Parkway, from the Moses Cone Manor drive about .5 miles and turn left onto the Highway 221 and Shull's Mill Road exit. Take the first right onto Shull's Mill Road and drive under the parkway. Follow Shull's Mill Road for about .5 miles past Trout Lake and look for a sharp curve to the left. In that curve (on the right side of the road) is the gate to the trail and enough parking for two or three cars. If the parking spots are taken simply turn around park in the Trout Lake paved parking lot and walk up the road to the trailhead.

On Sunday April 3, 2005 at 2:00 PM we're going to hike Glen Burney Falls - From the Blue Ridge Parkway, MP 294 take US Hwy. 221 North for 2 miles to Main Street in Blowing Rock. At the traffic light, turn right onto Main Street/Hwy. 321 S and go through one traffic light. Take a right onto Laurel Lane and proceed straight through 4-way stop sign. Next left is driveway for Anne Cannon Memorial Garden (across from pond with Gazebo). The trail head for Glen Burney Trail is at far end of parking area. The Trail goes to two waterfalls. 1.6 miles. Moderate to Strenuous. Be there or be square.
